TEL AVIV

TEL AVIV, Israel - It had never been done before: three planeloads, full of Jewish immigrants; one from the U.S., one from Canada and one from Great Britain -- landing almost simultaneously at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.
Altogether, more than 500 new immigrants set their feet on Israeli soil, as hundreds of well- wishers came out to celebrate their arrival.
"Whenever we come here, our heart always feels like it's the place we want to be. We feel for our children, this is the place we want to bring them up - this is home for us," said David Nussbaum, an immigrant from Great Britain.
Unlike Jews in other parts of the world, most of these new immigrants are leaving behind comfortable lives, homes and jobs, to come and live in a tumultuous land surrounded by enemies.
Josh Saltzman from the U.S. said, "I think, as Jews, we're ultimately safer in Israel, so war or no war, this is where we belong."
"This is our answer, not just to them (terrorists), but this is our answer to Hitler, and the Nazis that killed us,” said U.S. immigrant Rabbi Aaron Simkin. “This is our answer to Spain when they kicked us out, this is our answer to everyone: we are still Israel, we are still the Jewish people. The ancient Egyptians and Babylonians who enslaved us, they're gone - we're still here and we're coming home today."New U.S immigrant Lori Esses was asked whether she was concerned about bringing her children to a war-ravaged land.
"No, not at all…,” she said. “I really believe that God protects Jews wherever they are." The Jewish Agency, in conjunction with Nefesh B'Nefesh, an organization dedicated to the revitalization of aliyah helped organize the event.
“The North Americans, the English people, represent the best Aliyah that we've ever seen, in terms of education, professional experience, educational degrees, you name it,” said Charley Levine of Nefesh B' Nefesh. “They're ready to fit into society, into the economy and start contributing."
When one couple was asked whether they had jobs lined up, Nussbaum quipped, “Yeah, my wife will be shopping full time, and I'll be working to support her."
For many, there is no more convincing evidence of the fulfillment of God's prophetic word than the return of the Jewish people to their ancient homeland.
Zeev Bielski of the Jewish Agency for Israel, said, "And for us, this country is not just a geographic place, it was promised to us thousands of years ago -- and these people are coming home, so it's a big excitement for the people of Israel."
“We did our best today. We only had three planes, we were trying to come from the four corners of the Earth. Today we're coming from three corners, but give us a while to work on it and we'll get the fourth corner too," promised Levine.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told Israel's newest citizens that although they enjoyed international support during the war, there is no support like the Jewish people.
Olmert said, "If there is one thing that can make a difference in the future of the state of Israel, one thing that really strengthens this country, it is Aliyah to Israel. We are not an easy country to live in -- if you don't know it yet, you will find out soon."
One man who immigrated from the u.s. 24 years ago became overwhelmed at the realization that he's living the dream that his ancestors predicted would one day come.
"Generation after generation, father's would tell their sons, one day we will come home to the land of Israel, one day we'll return to Jerusalem, one day, one day….and today, our generation has the merit of seeing that happen right before our eyes," said Arraham Sheina.
The Jewish Agency predicts about 25,000 new immigrants will come from all over the world this year to settle in Israel.

The Name That Was Silenced

The Name That Was Silenced
By David Brody CBN News- Capitol Hill
CBNNews.com – HENDERSON, Nevada - Brittany McComb might appear to be like any other 18-year-old. But she's not. How many 18-year-olds do you know who are suing their high school?
It's a case that could be destined for the U.S. Supreme Court. Let's back up two months.
June 15: Valedictorian Brittany McComb is on stage to deliver a speech, which highlights God's influence in her life. But when she tries to mention how Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, all of a sudden her microphone goes dead.
Is it a faulty outlet? A power surge? No, the school pulled the plug...literally! John Whitehead heads the legal organization representing McComb. He said, "She had the microphone pulled, something that only happens in totalitarian regimes."
McComb knew the microphone would be shut off because she had to submit a copy of her speech to the school. They warned her not to read her version or they would cut off her microphone.
CBN News obtained a copy of the speech. The school cut out this part: "God's love is so great that He gave His only Son up to an excruciating death on a cross so His blood would cover all our shortcomings, and our relationship with Him could be restored…" They cited that as 'identifying a particular religion."
They also didn't like the part where she wrote "that is why Christ died." They also crossed out a part where they believed she was proselytizing. She wrote: "I can guarantee 100 percent, no doubt in my mind, that if you choose to fill yourself with God's love rather than the things society tells us will satisfy us, you will find success, you will find your self-worth."
In a rare interview, CBN News spoke with McComb at her parent's home outside of Las Vegas.
She said, "I was very convicted that I was doing the right thing and that my heart was very much in the right place. The fact of the matter is, you can listen and accept it, or you don't have to. You can tune it out. Most people tune out valedictory speeches."
Officials at Foothill High School and the Clark County school district would not talk to us on camera. Since the case is currently under litigation, they felt it was better not to say anything.
After all, the principal and the assistant principal have been targeted in the lawsuit. The school claims they did nothing wrong and were just following previous court rulings on what can and what cannot be said at high school graduations.
Cases in Nevada are heard by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. They've previously ruled that graduation speeches are school-sponsored, and that means generic religious references are OK, but proselytizing is not.
Christina Littlefield has been following this case for the Las Vegas Sun. "The 9th Circuit really leaves no room for the student to have the right to free speech in a graduation speech where it is a school-sponsored event, and that's kind of the key here," Littlefield said. "The school district had to follow the 9th Circuit ruling. The question is, is the 9th Circuit ruling the right interpretation of the law?"The school district's rules on graduation speeches allowed for them to give a disclaimer before McComb's speech. But the school district decided to follow the court's rulings instead.
The 9th circuit has said that once a school district starts to edit the speech, it becomes school- sponsored. So schools must stop the speech or risk violating the establishment of religion clause in the First Amendment. Whitehead says that makes no sense.
"People are not stupid. They know schools don't endorse religion. They knew that young girl up there wasn't speaking for the government," Whitehead said.
He added, "Once she diverted from the school-approved version, she was a private individual speaking in a limited public forum. That's the big difference."
Defying school authorities was not easy for McComb. She remembers what she was thinking the day before the speech: "I am going to throw up. What is going to happen to me tomorrow? I was so scared."
But after a night filled with prayer, her mind cleared. She said, "I woke up the next morning and God really gave me a peace and a calm about what I was supposed to do."
But she gave her word to the school that she would read their edited version. What about going back on that agreement?
"I said yes, and at that moment I wasn't thinking correctly, or maybe I was just frazzled,” McComb said. “But I do admit that after the speech, it was something that is not Christ-like, lying to someone about what you're going do. But you know what? That's God's grace."
Not everyone sees it that way. One of McComb's teachers, Karen Vaughan, wrote a letter to the Las Vegas Review Journal saying, "You made a promise. If you break that promise, you would be lying, and that is a sin.” She also said, "This is not the proper platform for a sermon. All of the people in this captured audience have come to see someone graduate from high school. You do not have the right to ruin their graduation experience."
McComb figured criticism would find her. She said, "I've tried to guard my heart against that and realize the only words that influence me should be from Christ."
But it's those words that she couldn't say about Christ that make her wonder what's happened to her free speech.
"They're telling me I can't say that,” McComb said. “I can't say that Jesus Christ has changed my life to make me a caring citizen, to make me a successful person, to give me hope for the future, to give me purpose.”
Whitehead said, "Are we saying that people who are religious can't attempt to persuade other people? Well, if not, they don't have free speech rights, so what we're saying to religious people at that point is that the First Amendment doesn't apply to you anymore."
This issue of what is and what is not proselytizing at graduation speeches may have to be settled once and for all by the Supreme Court.
"Regardless of whether her case gets there,” said Littlefield, “it's adding to that body of cases out there that say this is a legitimate question. This is a question that the Supreme Court needs to weigh in on."
So while McComb waits to see what will come from this, she says that it makes sense that saying the name of Jesus would cause all this controversy.
She said, "In the Bible, it does say Christ's name is offensive, but it's a name of love and forgiveness and mercy and joy!"
McComb's convinced it's all of that, but for now, at least, it's also a name that's been silenced at Foothill High School.

Martyrdom

Martyrdom Not New to Nigerian Christians
Greg MusselmanVoice of the Martyrs
Last month, a Muslim mob stoned a Christian woman to death for openly sharing the gospel. But martyrdom is nothing new to Nigeria's Christians.
Jemima Samson Bukar lost her husband when militant Muslims started rioting in the market village of Yelwa in southern Plateau State on February, 24, 2004. The well-armed attackers started killing Christians and burning houses at around 7 a.m.
“We all went out for morning devotions in the church. The rioters had already planned the attack,” Bukar said. “They brought weapons around our house and around the church. When we were inside the church, we were singing praises and were worshipping God. The rioters came and surrounded the church.”
Bukar told her husband, who was the pastor of the church, to run. But he refused, saying that he was going to stay with his congregation
“In the midst of the killing my husband died, my son was also killed, he had just finished secondary school,” she said. “The killers made us go to our homes, and they said they were going to kill us. We told them we weren’t afraid of dying. We will die if God wants us to die. Our husbands were killed during the fighting.”
According to Human Rights Watch who investigated the incident, 48 Christians died in the church that day, another 30 also perished during the attack.
“When we came back to the village after the killings our church was burnt down, my husband was killed, my son was killed,” Bukar said. “We did not have anything left with us except for the Bible that we took when we were running away. That was the only thing we had with us. All other things were destroyed. Our house was also burnt by fire.”
But Bukar is not a bitter woman because she has an eternal perspective.
“Now I have hope because I know that my husband has gone to be with the Lord,” she said. “I used to be very angry because of the death of my husband, but the most important thing for me now is my prayer for the killers of my husband that God will forgive them.”

I Harvest Crusade Addresses End of the World Fears
Between the war in the Middle East and the terrorist plot in England, many are asking the question, “Is the end of the world near?”
Evangelist Greg Laurie addressed the question at his 17th Annual Harvest Crusade in Anaheim, Calif. this week.
More than 100,000 people came to the three-day festival of gospel music and preaching. Laurie told the crowd that the events taking place today are 'signs of the times' that Jesus is returning soon.
And he urged them to put their faith in Christ. Harvest reports that more than 9,000 people prayed to receive salvation at the event.

Muslims Turned Christians Pay The Price

Muslims Turned Christian Pay the Price
By Erick Stakelbeck Washington Terror Analyst
CBN.com – WASHINGTON - Last month, CBN News brought you the story of Abdul Rahman, the Afghan man who was thrown in prison for converting from Islam to Christianity. He has since been released and has left Afghanistan.
But countless other ex-Muslims continue to face persecution--even here in the West.
The images have become all too familiar--Muslims marching in anger and threatening those they say have insulted Islam. The most recent trigger was cartoons of Mohammed, which sparked riots across the Muslim world. But perhaps nothing is more offensive to Muslims than apostasy, when a fellow believer abandons the faith.
“The consensus among Muslim scholars for a long time -- for 14 centuries -- was that those who leave the faith should be killed,” said terrorism expert Daveed Gartenstein-Ross.
Gartenstein-Ross has studied Islamic law extensively. He says those who convert out of Islam--especially Christians--lead a lonely and dangerous existence.
He said, “And even today, the view that apostates from Islam should not be killed -- that people should be free to convert to another religion -- is very much a minority view.”
Within the Islamic world there are at least 14 states that make it illegal to convert out of Islam. In at least eight of those states, it is punishable by death.
That list includes U.S. allies such as Saudi Arabia and Pakistan -- where, by and large, there is no separation between mosque and state--and no rest for former Muslims.
Exhibit A: Abdul Rahman -- after his arrest for converting to Christianity, one senior Afghan cleric said he should be torn to pieces for his conversion. In light of that rage, what does the Koran say about it?
Several verses in the Koran severely condemn apostasy but fall short of calling for the death penalty.
But in the Hadith, Islam's other holy book, Mohammed said those who leave Islam should be killed. Mohammed's direct successors--the Caliphs--also said apostates should receive death.
Gartenstein-Ross said many Muslims take these verses literally and take it upon themselves to punish former Muslims-- even in the west.
CBN News spoke to one Christian convert we will call “Khaleed.” Khaleed works for the popular Web site, answering-islam.org. His story is one of rejection and abuse by Muslims in his own community in Western Europe.
“A lot of people don't even want to talk with me or even sit with me at the same table. I was like the reject of the community,” Khaleed said.
It was not long before Khaleed was forced to defend himself against physical violence.
He said, “They'd get very angry and very abusive verbally--call me "traitor" and things like that. And I'd even sometimes get into fistfights with some angry Muslims who hated the fact that I left Islam.”
And when he began doing Christian missionary work in these European Muslim communities, things only got worse.
“'We will kill you.' That's the verbal abuse--OK?” Khaleed said. “’…One day you'll die. And you will die suddenly.’ It was death threats all the time. And I got more and more -- actually physical attacks several times -- from them.”
Khaleed left Europe and now lives in the U.S., but he is careful not to advertise his Christian faith. So what is being done to protect converts like Khaleed? According to one former Muslim, who also wanted his face hidden, not nearly enough.
Author and renowned scholar Ibn Warraq said, “I would find it difficult to give you precise statistics, but many people have been killed by the family to save the family honor if they discover the family member has converted to Christianity, especially...and you don't hear about it. The police just turn a blind eye to it.” Warraq is the author of Leaving Islam: Apostates Speak Out. Warraq considers himself a secularist and lives in an undisclosed location because he fears for his family's safety. He says the left, in particular, has largely ignored the plight of apostates.
"There was an article by a Muslim in the Columbia Law Review that argued strongly enough that even Muslims in the West who leave Islam should be punished in the most severe form possible," Warraq said.
“No one thought to criticize this,” Warraq said. “It was accepted by the Columbia Law Review.”
Gartenstein-Ross points to what he calls a stark contrast in the West: “Those who convert out of Christianity and to Islam are often interviewed favorably in glossy magazines, talk about their conversion very openly, and are lauded for it. It's seen as something of a brave step.”
But he says that those who leave Islam usually do so quietly, even in the Christian world, because it's dangerous -- “In large part, because even in the Christian world, those who leave Islam for Christianity are not safe,” he said.
Fred Farrokh wants to change that. Farrokh is executive director of the Jesus for Muslims Network. Raised Muslim, he is now a Christian. His book is called Jailbreak: A Christian's Guide to Praying for the Muslim World.
Farrokh is opening a refuge center for Christian converts in New York City.
“Muslim background believers who are suffering persecution can come live and receive discipleship, training, equipping...and then, they themselves will be among the greatest missionaries, if you will, to Muslim people,” Farrokh said.
Warraq says that the West needs more people like Farrokh--who are willing to stand up and protect the rights of apostates here. But he says that even after the Abdul Rahman fiasco, the West remains crippled by political correctness--and largely indifferent to the plight of apostates.
“All we would have to do in the West is to simply stick to our own principles,” Warraq said, “and we would bring about change in the Islamic world. But we don't seem to be able to do that. We seem to be incapable of defending our own values.”

Christians Jewish Roots!!!

One day in the late 19th Century, Queen Victoria of England reportedly asked her Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli, this question...
"Mr. Prime Minister, what evidence can you give me of the existence of God?"
Disraeli thought for a moment and then replied, "The Jew, your majesty."
Think of it, according to Disraeli the primary evidence that God exists is the existence of the Jewish people... A people who in 586 BC were deported to Babylon, yet returned after seventy years to rebuild a nation. Who were again brutally massacred and dispersed by the Romans in 70 AD, yet after countless centuries of Diaspora, expulsions, pogroms, ghettos, and attempts at genocidal extermination, have clung to their faith, their customs-and now after some 2500 years of wandering have returned to the land promised by God to their ancestors. A new nation began in that land in 1948 named after their ancestor Jacob, whose divinely appointed name Israel means "Prince with God." And to fulfill another ancient prophecy, God moved on the heart of Eliezer Ben-Yehuda, whose son Ehud told me that, while his father was living in Eastern Europe, he heard a voice and saw a light directing him to bring forth for the Jewish people a pure language-Hebrew-the language of the Torah and of the ancient prophets.
Yes, the survival of the Jewish people is a miracle of God. The return of the Jewish people to the land promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is a miracle of God. The remarkable victories of Jewish armies against overwhelming odds in successive battles in 1948, and 1967, and 1973 are clearly miracles of God. The technological marvels of Israeli industry, the military prowess, the bounty of Israeli agriculture, the fruits and flowers and abundance of the land are a testimony to God's watchful care over this new nation and the genius of this people.
Yet what has happened was clearly foretold by the ancient prophet Ezekiel, who, writing at the time of the Babylonian captivity, declared this message for the Jewish people concerning latter days.
"For I will take you out of the nation; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back to your own land... I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you... to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. You will live in the land I gave your forefathers; you will be my people and I will be your God. I will save you from all your uncleanness.
"I will call for the grain and make it plentiful... I will increase the fruit of the trees and the crops of the field, so that you will no longer suffer disgrace among the nations because of famine...
"This is what the Sovereign Jehovah says, 'On the day I cleanse you from all your sins, I will resettle your towns, and the ruins will be rebuilt. The desolate land will be cultivated instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass through it. They will say, "This land that was laid waste has become like the garden of Eden; the cities that were lying in ruins, desolate and destroyed, are now fortified and inhabited."'
"Then the nations around you that remain will know that I, Jehovah, have rebuilt what was destroyed and have replanted what was desolate. I, Jehovah, have spoken, and I will do it." Ezekiel 36:24 ff.
Ladies and Gentleman, evangelical Christians support Israel because we believe that the words of Moses and the ancient prophets of Israel were inspired by God. We believe that the emergence of a Jewish state in the land promised by God to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob was ordained by God.
We believe that God has a plan for this nation which He intends to be a blessing to all the nations of the earth.
Of course, we, like all right-thinking people, support Israel because Israel is an island of democracy, an island of individual freedom, an island of the rule of law, and an island of modernity in the midst of a sea of dictatorial regimes, the suppression of individual liberty, and a fanatical religion intent on returning to the feudalism of 8th Century Arabia.
These facts about modern day Israel are all true. But mere political rhetoric does not account for the profound devotion to Israel that exists in the hearts of tens of millions of evangelical Christians.
You must realize that the God who spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai is our God. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are our spiritual Patriarchs. Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel are our prophets. King David, a man after God's own heart, is our hero. The Holy City of Jerusalem is our spiritual capital. And the continuation of Jewish sovereignty over the Holy Land is a further bulwark to us that the God of the Bible exists and that His Word is true.
And we should clearly take note that evangelical Christians serve a Jew that we believe was the divine Messiah of Israel, spoken of by the ancient prophets, to whom He entrusted the worldwide dissemination of His message to twelve Jewish apostles.
It should be noted that today Christianity, with well over two billion adherents, is by far the fastest growing religion in the world. Within twenty years, that number will swell to three billion. Of these, at least six hundred million are Bible-believing evangelicals and charismatics who are ardent supporters of the nation of Israel. In twenty years, that number will reach one billion. Israel has millions of Christian friends in China, in India, in Indonesia, throughout Africa and South America, as well as North America.
We are with you in your struggle. We are with you as a wave of anti-Semitism is engulfing the earth. We are with you despite the pressure of the "Quartette" and the incredibly hostile resolutions of the United Nations. We are with you despite the threats and ravings of Wahabbi Jihadists, Hezbollah thugs, and Hamas assassins.
We are with you despite oil embargos, loss of allies, and terrorist attacks on our cities.
We evangelical Christians merely say to our Israeli friends, "Let us serve our God together by opposing the virulent poison of anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism that is rapidly engulfing the world."
Having affirmed our support, I would humbly make two requests of our Israeli friends:
First, please don't commit national suicide. It is very hard for your friends to support you, if you make a conscious decision to destroy yourselves.
I hardly find it necessary to remind this audience of the stated objectives of Yasser Arafat, the PLO, Hamas, Hezbollah, and Islamic Jihad. Their goal is not peace, but the final destruction of the State of Israel. At no time do they, or their allies in the Muslim world, acknowledge the sovereignty of Israel over even one square inch of territory in the Middle East. If a Palestinian State is created in the heart of Israel with sovereign power to deploy troops, import modern weapons-even weapons of mass destruction-and operate with full secrecy and diplomatic immunity, the ability of the State of Israel to defend itself will be fatally compromised.
The slogan "land for peace" is a cruel chimera. The Sinai was given up. Did that bring lasting peace?-No. Southern Lebanon was given up. Did that bring lasting peace?-No. Instead Hezbollah rode tanks to the border of Israel shouting, "On to Jerusalem!" Now, as many as 10,000 rockets aimed at Metulla, Qiryat Shemona, and all of Northern Israel have been put in place throughout Southern Lebanon.
Arafat was brought up at the knees of the man who yearned to finish the work of Adolf Hitler. How can any realist truly believe that this killer and his associates can become trusted partners for peace?
I am aware of the deep feelings of many Israelis who yearn for peace. Who long to be free from the terror of the suicide bombers of the intifada. I would draw their attention to the fact that during the Cold War, the American people yearned to be free from the constant threat of a nuclear holocaust. Then, at Reykjavik, Iceland on the occasion of a summit between President Ronald Reagan of the United Sates and Premier Mikhail Gorbachev of the Soviet Union, what seemed like an incredible opportunity for peace was presented to President Reagan by Mr. Gorbachev. An offer was made for hitherto undreamed of reductions in nuclear weapons. Gorbachev's offer included everything the U.S. arms negotiations had wanted, except one thing. The condition for the Russian offer was to be the agreement by the United States to abandon the so-called "star wars" Strategic Defense Initiative.
Mr. Reagan carefully considered the offer-then reluctantly said no. Without the Strategic Defense Initiative, there would be no deal. Gorbachev was stunned. Then both leaders, with sadness in their hearts, adjourned the meeting and departed Reykjavik.
Once again, the world was hovering on the brink of nuclear annihilation. The American liberal press was apoplectic at Reagan's decision. But he held firm.
Now we all know that he was right. The Russians could not compete with the United States in a nuclear arms race and Gorbachev knew it. The bluster was over-the threats were over-Reagan had won by standing firm. Soon freedom broke out in Poland-in Hungary-in East Germany. The Berlin Wall came down. The barbed wire fences came down. And Soviet Communism came down.
The world is safe from super power nuclear terror. This terror is no more because one strong leader stood against public opinion-against the advice of many of his own counselors and said no! May the leaders of Israel in 2004 have the courage to look the nations of the world in the eye, and when your national interests demand it-say no!
Second, the world's Christians ask that you do not give away the treasured symbols of your spiritual patrimony.
I read recently in the Wall Street Journal an article written by an American Jewish commentator who remarked that the Temple Mount and what is termed the "Wailing Wall" are "sacred stones and sites," but hardly worth bloodshed.
Just think-the place where the Patriarch Abraham took Isaac to offer him to God. The place bought by King David from Araunah where the Angel of the Lord stood with drawn sword. The place of Solomon's temple. The place of the Holy of Holies. The place where Jesus Christ walked and taught. The very spiritual center of the Jewish worship of the one true God-nothing but a pile of sacred stones-unworthy of sacrifice? What an incredible assertion!
Ladies and gentlemen, make no mistake-the entire world is being convulsed by a religious struggle. The fight is not about money or territory; it is not about poverty versus wealth; it is not about ancient customs versus modernity. No-the struggle is whether Hubal, the Moon God of Mecca, known as Allah, is supreme, or whether the Judeo-Christian Jehovah God of the Bible is Supreme.
If God's chosen people turn over to Allah control of their most sacred sites-if they surrender to Muslim vandals the tombs of Rachel, of Joseph, of the Patriarchs, of the ancient prophets-if they believe their claim to the Holy Land comes only from Lord Balfour of England and the ever fickle United Nations rather than the promises of Almighty God-then in that event, Islam will have won the battle. Throughout the Muslim world the message will go forth-"Allah is greater than Jehovah. The promises of Jehovah to the Jews are meaningless.
"We can now, in the name of Allah, move to crush the Jews and drive them out of the land that belongs to Allah."
In short, those political initiatives that some have asserted will guarantee peace, will in truth guarantee unending struggle and ultimate failure. Those political leaders who only understand the secular dimension of Israel's existence and who cavalierly dismiss the spiritual dimension will find that they receive the mess of pottage of Esau rather than the inheritance of Jacob.~~~~~~~~~~
On Christmas Day in 1974, I had the privilege of interviewing Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin for my television program, The 700 Club. Rabin lamented the fact that after Israeli military victories, the nation had been stopped from achieving a peace treaty.
That was thirty years ago. Israel seemed as isolated and alone then as it does today. As I concluded my interview, I asked Prime Minister Rabin a final question. "What would you want the United States to do now for Israel?"
He replied without hesitation. "Be strong! Be strong!"
That evening I joined for dinner a group of several hundred people who had accompanied me from the United States. We were meeting in the large dining room of the InterContinental Hotel on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, whose floor-to-ceiling windows gave a stunning view of the illuminated Temple Mount. As I related to the group the substance of my meeting, I began to recall the feeling of sadness which had come from the Prime Minister-the sense of the isolation of his nation. That evening, I made a solemn vow to God that, despite whatever might happen in the future, I and the organizations I headed would stand in support of Israel and the Jewish people. Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to say that I have kept that vow each year since 1974.
In closing, I would deliver to Israel in 2004 the message Yitzhak Rabin delivered to the United States on Christmas Day in 1974. For you are the living witnesses that the promises of the Sovereign Lord are true. "Be strong! Be strong!"
He will be with you and so will your evangelical friends. Thank you, and God bless you!

WHY Christians leaving mideast? Is it from the war or islamic extremist?

BEIRUT, Lebanon - In 48 hours, Charbel and Lydia Karkour will start a new chapter in their lives.
"It is good to start from the beginning in a good place and a very peaceful place," said Charbel.
The newly wed Christian couple, with a baby on the way, will travel north by road from Beirut, Lebanon to Damascus, Syria.
Asked if the journey to leave is risky, Charbel said, “Yes, it is very risky.”
Their final destination? Toronto, Canada.
"I have a baby, and we want to have a good future for him," said Charbel’s wife.
But the decision to leave their homeland wasn't an easy one to make.
"I am trying to say goodbye to my friends and family,” Lydia said. “For now, I don'twant to think about it. It is very sad."
The Karkours are not the only ones leaving. Many of their friends at church have either left or are trying to leave the country for good. Pastor Shadi el-Aouad says that a number of families have approached him, desperate to escape.
He said, "Christians are asking the question: Why would we stay? Why would we lose our homes, our businesses, and even our lives for something we are really not a part of?"
But the Karkours are not just leaving because of the war. They're also concerned that Lebanon is becoming a hostile place for Christians.
"The religious Muslims are really scary. They hate us," said Charbel.
Christians were once the majority in Lebanon. Not anymore. They now make up less than 40 percent of the population. The rest are Muslims. And their numbers are growing.
Lydia said, "We are afraid that it is becoming a Muslim country."
Charbel's work takes him around the Middle East. He says that Muslims today are out-producing Christians.
"What you are seeing in reality is real,” Charbel said. “They are multiplying too much.”
Every family produces five to 10 children. These children will then have five to 10 children. So it’s 10 exponential – 10 in the second generation."
The Christian population in Lebanon began to drop during the civil wars, either through emigration or declining birth rates.
This latest conflict is seeing a new wave of emigration.
Sixteen-year-old Jade Hajj, a Christian from west Beirut, is leaving soon for Australia.
"I am forced to,” she said. “At the moment, schools are closed. And if I want to doanything good for Lebanon, I need to continue my education."
Some suggest that up to 70 percent of the Christians that are left in Lebanon are ready to leave as soon as the Beirut airport opens.
Viviane Kahkedjian is one of them. She said, "Since I was born, there's been a war. Every 10 years there's another war. I plan to leave this country to have a life."
And it is not just in Lebanon. Across the Muslim and Arab world, Christians are fleeing the growing hostility against them.
"In Jordan, big numbers of Christians are leaving. In Iraq, big numbers of Christians are leaving. So too, in Syria," said Pastor Aouad.
Aouad says that the real impact of Christians leaving Lebanon will only be felt in the future.
"My concern is that we are losing our inheritance, our father's inheritance, and not just the land's inheritance, but our spiritual inheritance in the nation," he said.
Meanwhile, those who have chosen to stay are ministering to thousands of Muslim refugees displaced by the war. Across the country, Lebanese Christians have opened their homes and churches to those fleeing the Israeli attacks in the south of Lebanon.
But in some of the Christian areas of Beirut, the refugees, many of whom are Hezbollah supporters, think that the Christians are not doing them any special favors by helping them. Instead, many Muslims believe that the Christians have a duty to come to their aid.
As the Karkours get ready to leave, they are holding onto a promise in the Bible that one day Lebanon will see better days.
Lydia said, "We have a promise in the Bible that says, ‘In a moment, Lebanon will become like a heaven.’ I prefer to walk by faith and not by what I am seeing, and I trust my God because He is greater than what I am seeing."

a LEBANESE view on mideast war

Ména will continue to inform its readers of the evolution of the situation, by way of continuous official statements on this site for the minor developments, and by emailing “breaking news” to its subscribers, in the case of major events.

The politicians, journalists and intellectuals of Lebanon have, of late, been experiencing the shock of their lives. They knew full well that Hezbollah had created an independent state in our country, a state including all the ministers and parallel institutions, duplicating those of Lebanon. What they did not know – and are discovering with this war, and what has petrified them with surprise and terror – is the extent of this phagocytosis.

In fact, our country had become an extension of Iran, and our so-called political power also served as a political and military cover for the Islamists of Teheran. We suddenly discovered that Teheran had stocked more than 12,000 missiles, of all types and calibers, on our territory and that they had patiently, systematically, organized a suppletive force, with the help of the Syrians, that took over, day after day, all the rooms in the House of Lebanon. Just imagine it : we stock ground-to-ground missiles, Zilzals, on our territory and that the firing of such devices without our knowledge, has the power to spark a regional strategic conflict and, potentially, bring about the annihilation of Lebanon.

We knew that Iran, by means of Hezbollah, was building a veritable Maginot line in the south but it was the pictures of Maroun el-Ras and Bint J’bail that revealed to us the magnitude of these constructions. This amplitude made us understand several things at once : that we were no longer masters of our destiny. That we do not possess the most basic means necessary to reverse the course of this state of things and that those who turned our country into an outpost of their islamic doctrine’s combat against Israel did not have the slightest intention of willingly giving up their hold over us.

The national salvation discussions that concerned the application of Resolution 1559 and which included most of the Lebanese political movements were simply for show. Iran and Syria had not invested billions of dollars on militarizing Lebanon in order to wage their war, simply to give in to the desire of the Lebanese and the international community for them to pack up their hardware and set it up back home.

And then, the indecision, the cowardice, the division and the irresponsible behavior of our leaders are such that they had no effort to make to show their talent. No need to engage a wrestling match with the other political components of the Land of Cedars. The latter showed themselves – and continue to show themselves – to be inconsistent.

Of course, our army, reshaped over the years by the Syrian occupier so it could no longer fulfill its role as protector of the nation, did not have the capacity to tackle the militamen of the Hezb [hezb-Allah : the party of Allah. Translator’s note]. Our army whom it is more dangerous to call upon – because of the explosive equilibrium that constitutes each of its brigades – than to shut up behind locked doors in its barracks. A force that is still largely loyal to its former foreign masters, to the point of being uncontrollable ; to the point of having collaborated with the Iranians to put OUR coastal radar stations at the disposal of their missiles, that almost sunk an Israeli boat off the shores of Beirut. As for the non-Hezbollah elements in the government, they knew nothing of the existence of land-to-sea missiles on our territory… That caused the totally justified destruction of all OUR radar stations by the Hebrews’ army. And even then we are getting off lightly in these goings-on.

It is easy now to whine and gripe, and to play the hypocritical role of victims. We know full well how to get others to pity us and to claim that we are never responsible for the horrors that regularly occur on our soil. Of course, that is nothing but rubbish! The Security Council’s Resolution 1559 – that demanded that OUR government deploy OUR army on OUR sovereign territory, along OUR international border with Israel and that it disarm all the militia on OUR land – was voted on 2 September 2004.

We had two years to put implement this resolution and thus guarantee a peaceful future to our children but we did strictly nothing. Our greatest crime – which was not the only one! – was not that we did not succeed but that we did not attempt or undertake anything. And that was the fault of none else than the pathetic Lebanese politicians.

Our government, from the very moment the Syrian occupier left, let ships and truckloads of arms pour into our country. Without even bothering to look at their cargo. They jeopardized all chances for the rebirth of our country by confusing the Cedar Revolution with the liberation of Beirut. In reality, we had just received the chance – a sort of unhoped-for moratorium – that allowed us to take the future into our own hands, nothing more.

To think that we were not even capable of agreeing to “hang” Émile Lahoud – Al-Assad’s puppet – on Martyrs’ Square and that he is still president of what some insist on calling our republic… There is no need to look any further : we are what we are, that is to say, not much.

All those who assume public and communicational responsibilities in this country are responsible for this catastrophe. Except those of my colleagues, journalists and editors, who are dead, assassinated by the Syrian thugs, because they were clearly less cowardly than those who survived. And Lahoud remained at Baadbé [the president of the Lebanese Republic’s palace. Editor’s note]!

And when I speak of a catastrophe, I do not mean the action accomplished by Israel in response to the aggression against its civilians and its army, which was produced from our soil and that we did strictly nothing to avoid, and for which we are consequently responsible. Any avoiding of this responsibility – some people here do not have the minimal notions of international law necessary to understand! – means that Lebanon, as a state, does not exist.

The hypocrisy goes on : even some editorialists of the respectable L’Orient-le-Jour put Hezbollah’s savagery and that of the Israelis on a par! Shame! Spinelessness! And who are we in this fable? Poor ad æternum victims of the ambitions of others?

Politicians either support this insane idea or keep silent. Those we would expect to speak, to save our image, remain silent like the others. And I am precisely alluding to general Aoun, who could have made a move by proclaiming the truth. Even his enemy, Walid Jumblatt, the Druse leader, has proved to be less… vague.

Lebanon a victim? What a joke!

Before the Israeli attack, Lebanon no longer existed, it was no more than a hologram. At Beirut innocent citizens like myself were forbidden access to certain areas of their own capital. But our police, our army and our judges were also excluded. That was the case, for example, of Hezbollah’s and the Syrians’ command zone in the Haret Hreik quarter (in red on the satellite map). A square measuring a kilometer wide, a capital within the capital, permanently guarded by a Horla army [1], possessing its own institutions, its schools, its crèches, its tribunals, its radio, its television and, above all… its government. A “government” that, alone decided, in the place of the figureheads of the Lebanese government – in which Hezbollah also had its ministers! – to attack a neighboring state, with which we had no substantial or grounded quarrel, and to plunge US into a bloody conflict. And if attacking a sovereign nation on its territory, assassinating eight of its soldiers, kidnapping two others and, simultaneously, launching missiles on nine of its towns does not constitute a casus belli, the latter juridical principle will seriously need revising.

Thus almost all of these cowardly politicians, including numerous shiah leaders and religious personalities themselves, are blessing each bomb that falls from a Jewish F-16 turning the insult to our sovereignty that was Haret Hreik, right in the heart of Beirut, into a lunar landscape. Without the Israelis, how could we have received another chance – that we in no way deserve! – to rebuild our country?

Each Irano-Syrian fort that Jerusalem destroys, each islamic fighter they eliminate, and Lebanon proportionally starts to live again! Once again, the soldiers of Israel are doing our work. Once again, like in 1982, we are watching – cowardly, lying low, despicable, and insulting them to boot – their heroic sacrifice that allows us to keep hoping. To not be swallowed up in the bowels of the earth. Because, of course, by dint of not giving a damn for southern Lebanon, of letting foreigners take hold of the privileges that belong to us, we no longer had the ability to recover our independence and sovereignty. If, at the end of this war, the Lebanese army retakes control over its territory and gets rid of the state within a state – that tried to suffocate the latter –, it will only be thanks to Tsahal [the Israeli Defense Forces. Translator’s note], and that, all these faint-hearted politicians, from the crook Fouad Siniora, to Saad Hariri, the son of Lebanon’s plunderer, and general Aoun all know perfectly well.

As for the destruction caused by the Israelis… that is another imposture : look at the satellite map! I have situated, as best I could, BUT IN THEIR CORRECT PROPORTIONS, the parts of my capital that have been destroyed by Israel. They are Haret Hreik – in its totality – and the dwellings of Hezbollah’s leaders, situated in the large Shi’a suburb of Dayaa (as they spell it) and that I have circled in blue.

In addition to these two zones, Tsahal has exploded a nine-storied building that housed Hezbollah’s command, in Beirut’s city center, above and slightly to the left (to the north west) of Haret Hreik on the map. It was Nasrallah’s “perch” inside the city, whereby he asserted his presence and domination over us. A depot of Syrian arms in the port, two army radars that the Shiite officers had put at the Hezb’s disposal, and a truck suspected of transporting arms, in the Christian quarter of Ashrafieh.

Moreover the road and airport infrastructures were put out of working order : they served to provide Hezbollah with arms and munitions. Apart from that, Tsahal has neither hit nor deteriorated anything, and all those who speak of the “destruction of Beirut” are either liars, Iranians, anti-Semites or absent. Even the houses situated one alley’s distance from the targets I mentioned have not been hit, they have not even suffered a scratch; on contemplating these results of this work you understand the meaning of the concept “surgical strikes” and you can admire the dexterity of the Jewish pilots.

Circled in red, the razed area, in blue, area where the dwellings belonging to the terrorist organization’s top brass have been destroyed (Michael Béhé)

Beirut, all the rest of Beirut, 95% of Beirut, lives and breathes better than a fortnight ago. All those who have not sided with terrorism know they have strictly nothing to fear from the Israeli planes, on the contrary! One example: last night the restaurant where I went to eat was jammed full and I had to wait until 9:30 pm to get a table. Everyone was smiling, relaxed, but no one filmed them: a strange destruction of Beirut, is it not?

Of course, there are some 500,000 refugees from the south who are experiencing a veritable tragedy and who are not smiling. But Jean [Tsadik. Editor’s note], who has his eyes fixed on Kfar Kileh, and from whom I have learned to believe each word he says, assures me that practically all the houses of the aforesaid refugees are intact. So they will be able to come back as soon as Hezbollah is vanquished.

The defeat of the Shi’a fundamentalists of Iranian allegiance is imminent. The figures communicated by Nasrallah’s minions and by the Lebanese Red-Cross are deceiving: firstly, of the 400 dead declared by Lebanon, only 150 are real collateral civilian victims of the war, the others were militiamen without uniform serving Iran. The photographic report “Les Civils des bilans libanais” made by Stéphane Juffa for our agency constitutes, to this day, the unique tangible evidence of this gigantic morbid manipulation. Which makes this document eminently important.

Moreover, Hassan Nasrallah’s organization has not lost 200 combatants, as Tsahal claims. This figure only concerns the combats taking place on the border and even then the Israelis underestimate it, for a reason that escapes me, by about a hundred militiamen eliminated. The real count of Hezbollah’s casualties, that includes those dead in Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, Baalbek and their other camps, rocket and missile launchers and arms and munition depots amounts to 1,100 supplementary Hezbollah militiamen who have definitively ceased to terrorize and humiliate my country.

Like the overwhelming majority of Lebanese, I pray that no one puts an end to the Israeli attack before it finishes shattering the terrorists. I pray that the Hebrew soldiers will penetrate all the hidden recesses of southern Lebanon and will hunt out, in our stead, the vermin that has taken root there. Like the overwhelming majority of Lebanese, I have put the champagne ready in the refrigerator to celebrate the Israeli victory.

But contrary to them – and to paraphrase Michel Sardou [a French singer. Translator’s note] –, I recognize that they are also fighting for our liberty, another battle “where you were not present”! And in the name of my people, I wish to express my infinite gratitude to the relatives of the Israeli victims – civilian and military – whose loved ones have fallen so that I can live standing upright in my identity. They should know that I weep with them.

As for the pathetic clique that thrives at the head of my country, it is time for them to understand that after this war, after our natural allies have rid us of those who are hindering us from rebuilding a nation, a cease-fire or an armistice will not suffice. To ensure the future of Lebanon, it is time to make peace with those we have no reason to go to war against. In fact, only peace will ensure peace. Someone must tell them because in this country we have not learnt what a truism is.

JIHADIST CONVERTED

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania - It's rare for an Islamic terrorist to break free from the jihadist lifestyle. It's even rarer for that same terrorist to then speak out against Islamic terrorism and become a devout Christian.
But CBN News recently spoke to two-ex-terrorists who've done just that, and they have lived to tell about it.
Military experts often say that to defeat your enemy, you need to first know him. When it comes to the war against radical Islam, Walid Shoebat and Zachariah Anani don't just know the enemy — they were the enemy.
As a young man, Shoebat was a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), a terrorist group headed by Yasser Arafat.
Shoebat said, “Our mission at first — we were growing up in the West Bank — was: kill as many Jews as you can.”
Anani belonged to several Islamic terrorist groups in Lebanon. By 14, he had already committed his first murder, and he was just getting started.
“Within four years, I had 223 points, which means 223 kills,” Anani recalled. “And two-thirds of them by daggers. I was trained in what we call body combat.”
Growing up in the Middle East, Shoebat and Anani were taught to wage jihad against all non-Muslims, especially Jews. For years, they did that.
And that makes their transformation into Christian witnesses for Israel all the more amazing. The two men have devoted their lives to speaking out against radical Islam and standing up for the Jewish state.
“I began to understand that I was really on quicksand. I was really sinking deep. The truth was not in the Koran. The Koran does not have any prophecies, does not have any predictive prophecies telling us the future in such detail. The Bible does,” Shoebat explained. CBN News caught up with Shoebat and Anani last month in Philadelphia, where they shared their stories at an event called "Three Ex-Terrorists Speak Out."
If you think this sounds dangerous, you're right. They were supposed to be joined by a third former terrorist named Ibrahim Abdallah. But Abdallah, also a convert to Christianity, backed out at the last minute because Muslim family members threatened to kidnap his children if he participated.
Shoebat said that's par for the course.
“Islam is like the song ‘Hotel California,’” said Shoebat. “You can check in, but you can't check out. You can check out if you want -- in a coffin.”
But Anani and Shoebat did check out, leaving years of cult-like indoctrination behind.
Anani's grandfather and great-grandfather were both high-ranking Islamic clerics in Lebanon. By the time he was 13, “Zack” had joined his first terrorist group -- with the full approval of his family.
The group was called "The Youth of Ali," named after the Islamic prophet Mohammed's cousin.
Anani says he became a killing machine. At times he even targeted fellow Muslims. He told us of one occasion when a Muslim tried to wake him in the middle of the night to pray.
“I said, in a very challenging way, 'You come and wake me up at 3 o'clock, I'll shoot you,'” said Anani. “Three o'clock, he knocks on my door. I pull out my pistol from under my pillow, look at the door, measure where his chest is, and then shoot him through the door and go back to sleep again.”
Shoebat also hailed from a prominent family. His grandfather was close to the grand mufti of Jerusalem -- who worked closely with Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime. In Palestinian schools, young Walid learned that Jesus and Moses were Palestinian revolutionaries and that the Jews' day of judgment was coming.
“Most Americans think that terrorism starts by some group coming to recruit you. The recruitment already happens at the mosque,” Shoebat explained. “It already happens at the school. They're already part of the whole system of education. You don't need to recruit. The people are willing souls ready to die for martyrdom, or ready to die for Palestine. Ready to die for the cause of Allah.”
Shoebat was one of them.
“The assurance for salvation in Islam is via martyrdom,” he said. “That's the whole message. The Koran clearly stated it: ‘Do not think that the ones who die in the cause of Allah and martyrdom are dead, but are with Allah receiving their blessings.’ This is why my cousin went to his suicide mission and died. And my aunt Fatima, in the streets of Bethlehem, was passing out candy … because her son was now a martyr. After spending time in prison for attacking Israelis, Walid was ready to carry out missions for the PLO. On one run, he planted a bomb at a bank in Bethlehem right next to the Church of the Nativity.
Shoebat said, “As I was walking away from the bank, the Christian Nativity church -- where Jesus was born -- I heard this big explosion behind me. And I ran away. And I was never caught, and they never found out. And I never confessed these things until I became a Christian in 1993.”
The same Christian faith that Anani and Walid had once wanted to crush would eventually change their lives. After a chance encounter with a Christian preacher on a street in Lebanon, Zack left Islam and terrorism at the age of 17. His family reacted by disowning him.
Anani recalled, “My father took the small Bible from my hand and shredded it, and slapped me two or three times and stepped backward -- thinking I was [going to] jump him. I said, 'Nope. You hit me or you beat me, and I won't change a thing. I'll be a Christian.'”
Outside his home, things were even worse. He was dragged to the local mosque, beaten and excommunicated. There were also several attempts on his life.
“I was shot. I was knifed. I was poisoned. I was hit with a car. I was hit with sticks,” Anani said.
But Zack refused to be intimidated or be swayed from his new faith.
He said, “It took long years to study the Bible and the Christian faith. But in the beginning, like Paul said, I accepted Christ as an indigent. And wisdom came later on.”
Walid left Islam in 1993 after his wife, who was already a Christian, challenged him to prove the Bible wrong. He couldn't.
Shoebat said, “I began to understand the story of the fall of man, went all the way down to Revelation, and by the time I got to the prophets, I was fascinated to study Zechariah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Isaiah: 'For I am God and there is no Other -- for I am God and there is none like Me.'”
Shoebat's new-found faith cost him his father and his siblings. He now lives in an undisclosed location, where he heads the Walid Shoebat Foundation, a pro-Israel group. He's also written a book detailing his journey called Why I Left Jihad.
But he's disappointed that his message hasn't been well received by some in the West.
“Here's the ironic thing. The day that I hated Jews, I wanted to kill them, I wanted to blow them up -- I was called a freedom fighter by the world and by the press. The day that I turned around and said, you know what? I don't hate Jews, I don't hate blacks, I love everybody -- I love everybody equally; that's when I became a racist. Go figure,” Shoebat said.
Anani now lives in North America, where he's director of evangelism for an international ministry. His time in the West hasn't always gone smoothly either.
He's been assaulted and seen his life threatened by Muslims in the U.S. and Canada.
Shoebat said the best way to counter this jihad violence is as easy as turning a page.
“We need to send out Christian education, the truth from the Bible throughout the Muslim world,” Shoebat said. “And if we send out the message and tell them what the Bible already foretells about the outcome of what's going to happen to the Muslims, if they can understand that and see it clearly, then that faith, that false faith that they have their hopes on, is shaken.”
The ex-terrorists know their message isn't politically correct. Sure enough, they've had trouble getting coverage from the mainstream media. But they say they'll continue to tell the truth about what really drives Islamic terrorism.
As for their safety? They're leaving that in God's hands
